Hello everybody, This is Tanweer. Today I will guide you about Settings of Notification and Action Centre to take control on Windows 10. By default, Windows 10 allows you to keep track of notifications from various parts of the operating system, email, apps and other areas, but sometimes Windows 10 Apps can interrupt you with notifications. Here I will guide you  to take control or Disable of these unwanted Notification pop-ups and sounds so they do not become a distraction.

 

Notifications are the important part of the Action Center in Windows 10 and on the bottom right corner of your computer screen, you receive pop-up alerts for various things such as incoming messages, software updates, connected devices, etc. Here you will know everything related to Action Center in Windows 10, so you will know how to enable and disable Notifications.

 

What is Action Center in Windows 10 ?

The Action Center replaces the Charms Bar in Windows 8 and is intended to be the central location of all your notifications. The Action Center is divided into two major sections, first one is Notifications and the second one is Quick Actions that lets you take a look at all the notifications from all different apps, and even the system. The notification experience on Windows Computer is now similar to what we see on our smartphones.

 

 

 

Where is the Action Center in Windows 10 ?

On the taskbar, by clicking on [ Action Center button ], in the notification area, you can access the Action Center in Windows 10 to find your app notifications, as well as quick actions, which give you quick access to commonly used settings and apps. You can change your action center settings at any time from the Settings app.

 

 

How to access Action Center in Windows 10 ?

As you know that, Click on the icon to open the [ Action Center ]  panel which you will find in the right corner of your taskbar.

You can also use Keyboard Shortcut to access the Action Center directly by pressing [ WinKey+A ]. Please note that you can use the same key combination to hide the Windows 10 action center.

If you have the Laptop that supports Touchpad, then you can open and close the action center by [ Tapping with four fingers at the same time ].

Open action center in Windows 10 using Cortana, by [ Saying  – Hey Cortana ] and then [ Say – Open action center ].

 

How to show or hide Action Center button in Windows 10 ?

To remove the Action Center taskbar icon, [ right-click ] on an empty space in the [ taskbar ] and select [ Settings ]. This will take you directly to the Taskbar section of the Windows 10 Settings app.

Alternatively, you can launch [ Settings ] directly from the Start Menu 

 

 

Then navigate to [ Personalization > Taskbar ].

 

 

Now, click [ Turn system icons on or off ] option.

 

 

On the next screen, [ Turn off ] the toggle button for Action Center in Windows 10.

 

 

How Disable Action Center ?

Change your action center settings at any time from the Settings app. First launch [ Setting ] directly from the start menu. and then click [ System ].

 

 

In the System window, click the [ Notifications & actions ] category on the left side and on the right side, click the [ Turn system icons on or off ] link.

 

 

Now just set the [ Action Center ] item slider to [ Off ].

 

 

How to Disable Action Center Using Group Policy Editor ?

If your version of Windows 10 is Pro or Enterprise, you can also disable Action Center by using the Local Group Policy Editor. If you want to completely disable notifications and Action Center in Windows 10 all users of a computer or all users except administrators, you can do this using Group Policy Editor. Follow the following steps to disable action center using group policy editor.

Click [ WIN+R ] keys together to launch [ RUN ] dialog box. Then type [ gpedit.msc ] in RUN and press [ Enter ]. It will open Group Policy Editor.

In the Local Group Policy Editor, in the left-hand side, Go to [ User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar ]

 

 

Then in the right-side panel, double-click on [ Remove Notifications and Action Center ] option and set it to [ Enabled ].

 

Now click [ OK ] and then restart your computer.

 

NOTE : If you decide to re enable notifications and Action Center in future, double-click on [ Remove Notifications and Action Center ] option and set it to [ Not Configured ] or [ Disabled ].

 

How to Disable Action Center Using Registry Editor ?

If you have any versions of Windows 10, you can disable action center using Registry Editor. This will only disable it for the current user, but it will grey out the Settings option so they can not turn it back on.

NOTE : Firstly create a system restore point because Registry Editor is a powerful tool and misusing it can render your system unstable or even inoperable.

Follow the following steps to Disable action center using Registry Editor.

First of all Press [ WIN+R ] keys together to launch [ RUN ] dialog box. Now type [ regedit ] in RUN dialog box and press [ Enter ]. It will open Registry Editor and give it permission to make changes to your Computer. In the Registry Editor, use the left sidebar to navigate to the following key :

[ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer ]

 

 

Then you are going to create a new value inside the Explorer key. Right-click the [ Explorer folder icon ] and choose [ New > DWORD (32-bit) Value ].

 

 

Name the new value [ DisableNotificationCenter ].

 

 

Finally, you have to modify that value. Double [ click the new DisableNotificationCenter value ] and [ set the value to 1 ] in the [ Value data box ].

 

 

Click [ OK ], then [ exit Registry Editor ], and [ restart your computer ] to see the changes.

 

NOTE : if you want to bring back the Action Center, follow the same instructions as given above, but [ set the value to 0 ].

 

How to Control Windows 10 Notifications ?

All kind of Notifications appear above the taskbar. It is possible to disable these notifications for certain apps in Windows 10. To manage various settings related to notifications and Action Center in Windows 10, Click [ Settings > System > Notifications & actions. ]

 

 

Here you can do any of the following to Stop notifications from appearing when you don’t want.

  • Turn notifications, banners, and sounds on or off for some or all notification senders.
  • Choose the quick actions you’ll see in action center.
  • Turn tips, tricks, and suggestions about Windows on or off.
  • Choose whether to see notifications when you’re duplicating your screen.
  • Choose whether to see notifications on the lock screen.

 

Quiet hours option

You can prevent notifications in Windows 10 from showing up on your Computer screen by [ enabling the quiet hours ] option.

To enable quiet hours, you can find a [ quick actions button ] for the same in the action center.

 

 

Alternatively, You can [ Right-click the Action Center button ] in the taskbar. In the menu that appears next, click [ Turn on quiet hours ] and now are done.

 

 

NOTE : Now, you will not see any new notification banner until your disable quiet hours. However, you can check them anytime in the Action Center.

 

To Prevent notifications during a presentation

Sometimes, Notifications keep interrupting at the wrong time. To stop notifications while in the middle of a presentation [ Turn on ] the toggle button that says [ Hide notifications when I’m duplicating my screen ].

 

 

Stop Notifications from appearing on the lock screen

You can see notifications when your Computer is locked. However, your privacy concern could be blown if someone else sees them. To stop Notifications from appearing on the lock screen, [ turn off ] the toggle button that says [ Show notifications on the lock screen ].

 

 

 

Turn off Windows 10 notifications completely

To turn off Windows 10 Notifications completely, Here you can spot a toggle button that says [ Get notifications from apps and other senders ]. [ Turn it off ].

 

 

How to Control Windows 10 notifications for individual apps ?

On the Notifications & actions screen, you can scroll down to see the list of apps that can show notifications. Windows 10 allows you to control notifications for each your apps individually. In addition to managing the notifications for each app individually, you can also turn on or off the notifications for all the available apps in a single go.

Now, To take control by opening the Settings app and going to the Notifications & Actions section.

Go to [ Start > Settings > System > Notifications and actions ]

Under [ Get notifications from these senders ] you can disable notifications for an individual app by turning off the respective toggle button.

Here Click any application in the list to explore additional settings. For instance, you can enable or disable notifications or  notifications banners.

 

 

 

In addition, You can disable sound when a notification arrives, to save yourself from embarrassment in the Library or Lab. Also, you can control the number of notifications in Windows 10 that should appear in the action center.

 

Turn off the [ Play a sound when a notification arrives ] toggle switch.

 

 

How to Keep Notifications private on the lock screen ?

There is one more interesting settings that is to keep Notifications private on the lock screen. Maintain your notification privacy settings by utilizing the [ Keep notifications private on the lock screen ] and [ Turn on the toggle button ].

This setting ensures that when your computer goes into sleep or locked mode, none of your private calendar notifications or alarms will go off until you have returned and unlocked your screen.

 

 

How to Set high priority notifications ?

You can set priorities for applications so they are grouped in the Action Center just the way you want. Among the many apps on your Computer,  You prefer some over the others.

To do this, click the desired app in the list. Under [ Priority of notifications in action center ], you can choose between Normal, High, and Top. As the name suggests, choosing the Top option will always display notifications from that app above other in the Action Center.

 

 

How to Stop notifications for Windows tips, tricks, and new features ?

Presently Windows 10 introduces many new features and apps, and therefore wants to ensure that users are aware of all of the new things that the windows 10 and its built-in apps can do. While some users  may appreciate these suggestions based Notifications, where as most users simply find them annoying.

 

You can [ turn off ] the toggle button that says [ Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows ].

 

Then, you will not see any related notifications.

 

 

How to Change or remove Action Center quick actions ?

Quick actions are are the different shortcut options located inside the Action Center. These allow users to enable or disable various functionalities to add, remove and rearrange the Action Center shortcuts that is  quick actions for faster access to features and settings on your computer.

Here you can easily remove these quick actions or change their order. On the [ Notifications & actions page ], click [ Add or remove quick actions ]. To change the order of the quick actions, you can simply click and drag them across the grid.
